To relieve themselves of the stress that a couple can amass in the run up to their wedding, many newly weds are honeymooning in a growing range of exotic locations. Undoubtedly there is no better way to begin your married life together than to bask in the luxury and extravagance of such destinations.

Envisage a beautiful white sandy beach, tropical blue skies, a warm breeze and palm trees . If this image creates a vision of romance in your minds eye then honeymooning in an exotic location could be for you. But where exactly should you go?

Where?

The world is a very big place and the choices are huge. From Mauritius to the Seychelles to St Lucia, the choices are vast when it comes to honeymoon destinations. Often these placed are recognized for their beautiful scenery and romantic atmosphere, and many companies offer special packages specifically designed for honeymooners.

 
When?

Obviously after you are wed! But you should also take into consideration the time of year that you will be honeymooning due to the tropical climate of some destinations. For example, the best time to visit Antigua is November through to July, however the best time to visit the Seychelles is May through to November. A fortnight during hurricane season might not be every newly weds idea of paradise!

Vaccinations

Some locations will require a visit to your GP for vaccinations. Many of the tropical locations popular with honeymooners carry the risk of diseases that one might not ordinarily come into contact with. Your Doctor or local Health Centre will advise you which vaccinations are necessary for which locations. Another thing to bear in mind is that will likely need to take these vaccinations around four to six weeks before you travel.

Passports

If you are taking your spouses name when you marry, remember that in the UK it is possible to have the name on your passport changed up to three months in advance. However your new passport will be post-dated and so will only be valid from your wedding date.

Failing this, as long as your honeymoon is booked in both your maiden names so that the names on the travel documents match those on your passports, there shouldn’t be a problem, the country that you are travelling to requires you to have a visa. You should consult the Embassy of your destination or your travel agent to make certain that a visa stamped in a post dated passport is accepted. If it isn’t, you will need to travel using your passport in your maiden name.
