Minister for the Treasury Angela Eagle has wed her partner of 18 years, Maria Exall in a civil partnership in Southwark Registry Office in South London, making her the one of the first female ministers for parliament to enter into a same sex civil partnership.
Details of the Labour MP’s proposed marriage was exposed by fellow MP Harriet Harman, the Deputy Leader of the Labour party at a high profile conference earlier in September.
47 year old Angela said that she hadn’t expected her co-worker to make the announcement, but also admitted that their forthcoming partnership was not a secret. She said:-
“Maria and I met in Peckham Labour Party 18 years ago, and so Harriet has more right to announce it than nearly anyone.”
Angela, the Labour MP for Wallasey entered into the civil partnership with Maria, A BT Engineer in a private ceremony the presence of around 50 friends and family members. The wedding party attended a reception at Clapham’s Bread and Roses public house.
Angle opted for black trousers and a tailored white jacket, whilst Maria wore a classic black trouser suit.
