The Church of England has established new directives this week which will provide couples with a wider range of options regarding where they marry.

Couples in search of the picture perfect wedding will be permitted to marry in just about any church that they choose providing that they are able to prove a link, however small to the parish that they choose. The association can be through a parent, a grandparent or any other relative.

Exquisite and charming churches which have featured in films, or are established as venues for celebrity nuptials, are thought to be in line to receive a massive rush of marriage applications.

As the new policy is introduced, clergy are being offered support and advice on becoming a more attraction option to couples planning their wedding in order to even the score against the rapidly increasing numbers of civil wedding services.

Approximately 200 Church of England clergy have attended workshops which have offered recommendations for more responsive and sociable ceremony such as the repetition of certain elements of the wedding service to afford guests further photographic opportunities, reducing the price tag for a church service and encouraging members of the wedding party to applaud and cheer on the couple.

The past 15 years have seen a steady decline in the number of couples choosing to marry in a church.

At present, vicars are only approved to perform marriages when one of the couple wishing to be married dwell in the parish, with the exception of those who have submitted an application for a special licence, which is often a very lengthy and highly expensive process.

Church leaders trust that the loosening up of the procedure surrounding church weddings allow them to compete with castles, hotels and stately homes, in the market for wedding ceremonies.

When 25 year old bride Siobhan married the love of her life, Scott aged 24; it should have been the happiest day of her life.

But the Great British weather put paid to their dreams of a perfect wedding when the day turned out to be the wettest day for more than 60 years.

Three-quarters of the couples twenty invited guests were unable to get to the ceremony in Alnwick, Northumberland, and the unlucky pair were forced to abandon their wedding photos which were planned to take place at a beautiful castle as the venue was flooded.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the Rolls Royce that was transporting the bridesmaids to the reception broke down en route and on arrival at the reception venue the newly-weds discovered that the roof had collapsed.

The bride who was eight weeks pregnant on her wedding day said of the catalogue of disasters:-

“We did smile through and see the funny side in the end. I was determined to get married no matter what.” We may have picked the worst possible day but we got there in the end. The most important thing is that we are husband and wife and we love each other. We had a lovely night… but there was water leaking into buckets.”

The happy couple are now looking forward to their honeymoon in Turkey.

When 27 year old Sarah Ward married the man of her dreams, Brian Ashton aged 47, it really was a day to remember… Unfortunately it was for all the wrong reasons!

The white coloured stretch limo which they had hired for their big day was involved in an accident just a few yards away from the church where the wedding was due to take place. The bridegroom was hurt - and more unfortunately his elderly Mother suffered a heart attack.

78 year old Maureen was rushed to the local hospital, and the majority of her children were unable to attend the wedding or the reception and the newly weds’ honeymoon is expected to cancelled.

Despite the unfortunate set backs, the wedding service still took place - although the groom confessed to suffering severed back pain, along with several minor injuries to his arm and legs.

The accident happened in Middleton, Greater Manchester, after the wedding limo was travelling down a hill, swerved into a side road and then skidded into a council van before it collided with a brick wall.

The bride received news of the accident by telephone call as she was preparing for her walk up the aisle.

When a pair of motorcycle fanatics planned their recent wedding, they opted to arrive at their chosen wedding venue amidst a procession of more than 100 other bikers.

The 31 year old bride Jenny Hadfield and her 47 year old husband to be arrived at the Pastures Lodge Hotel in Mexborough accompanied by members of the Yamaha Virago-Star Owners Club in Doncaster for a Rocky Horror themed - bikers wedding ceremony.

The happy couple joined the convoy of more than 100 other Yamaha enthusiasts and travelled from Doncaster’s’ Castle Park Rugby Club to the hotel.

After the ceremony had taken place the couple and their guests, some of whom had turned out in fancy dress for the occasion, headed back to the Rugby club in order to resume celebrations which had gotten underway the night before the wedding as a combined hen/stag stag night.

The groom had expected to see many of his fellow bikers on his big day but was astonished at just how many turned out to wish him and his bride well. He said:-

“I couldn’t believe how many turned up. There were bikers there from all around Britain as well as from Holland, Switzerland and Germany. It really made our day and they looked after us like royalty.”

It would seem that our pets are playing a more important role in our lives than ever before. In fact it looks as if we are choosing to involve them in nearly all that we do.

One devoted couple who wed on a Scottish beach a short time ago would undoubtedly be in agreement - the happy couples’ pet German shepherd wasn’t just around to watch her owners get married, but was actually in attendance as a bridesmaid!

When 41 year old bride Anne Marie Fulton and her groom, 46 year old Anthony Gallacher who both live and work in Glasgow said ‘I do’ in a Highland civil ceremony they couldn’t bear to do it in the absence of beloved pet.

The newly weds married on Camusdarch Beach, Morar, as their proud pooch looked on in a bridesmaids dress designed and crafted by Anthony’s sister.

The ecstatic bride said of her unusual choice of bridesmaid:-

“We have had Caidir, which means “cherish” in Gaelic, since she was a puppy. She goes everywhere with us. We don’t have children and Caidir is like my baby, so we just had to make her a bridesmaid. While the ceremony was going on, Caidir was digging holes on the beach. It certainly made the wedding a bit different. Everyone, including Caidir, had a fantastic day.”

A forty-nine year old Scottish groom hoping to fly out to meet his bride and marry in Greece found himself and eleven of his wedding party stranded at Manchester airport.

Robert Chalmers, an Architect from Edinburgh had purchased tickets for flights to the beautiful Greek isle of Skopelos in the western Aegean Sea, just east of mainland Greece with doomed tour operator XL.

Rachel even met with the mayor of Skopelos who agreed that he would marry the pair on any day of this week.

The couple’s happy day had already come in at a cost of £5,000 and the desperate bride admits to calling her bank manager back in the UK to arrange an overdraft in order to cover the additional flight costs.

Forty-five year old Rachel said of the events:-

“I have had to call my bank and hit the overdraft but it was worth it just to see them all arriving on the island. I’m just delighted it can all go ahead as planned.”
